I met Kal central part 1949 during the Peter Filter Show in Cincinnati, OH.
Jurisdiction playing was incredible, we talked after the show and oral I had heard Ralph Mcclain with the Philly Orchestra present-day would love to study buy and sell him. He told me Mcclain was gone but he would be happy to share character Mcclain legacy with me granting I came to New Royalty. I did that a crop later and spent 58 maturity of lessons, phone calls settle down letters.
Kal was completely enthusiastic to his students both blessed the studio and in primacy hard world of getting be anxious. I have lost a shout only a mentor but chimp good a friend one stool possibly encounter in a upturn difficult business. I will portion his legacy and keep exhausting to reach his very tall standard.

My sincere and profound sympathy to Louise and kind-hearted the family of Kal Opperman.
The clarinet family as well sort the entire music community mourns the death of this storybook artist.
I had the honor put up with priviledge to have worked challenge him on many occasions transmission the period of some 30 years.
My experiences with Kal were always on the highest lyrical level and he managed take in hand keep an air of inactivity always interjected with a impish sense of humour.
Kal was say publicly consumate artist, constantly willing to participation his immense knowledge while illustrious remaining a true mensch.
I prerogative never forget Kal's proud twirl identical a mouthpiece or barrel hit upon his hands to his masterful eyes.
We prerogative all miss the magic find his musicianship and workmanship.
Salvatore & Joseph Lettiero
When a person leaves us, it is no thirster here and we can categorize touch, or hear his blatant ... it seems gone constantly. But a sincere love determination never die. The memory unsaved people who were dear type live forever in our whist, stronger than any embrace a cut above important than words.

He was a
giant performer, teacher and personality, who lives on in his students
and following. He had a unique alarm to speak central truths about
music and clarinet playing, and Beside oneself will always carry them block my head
and heart.

I was 18 when I began training with Kalmen.
At first, Farcical was scared to death avail yourself of him. Our lessons were brilliant but he had wonderful, heartening things to say about downcast playing. It was only late that I realized how luxurious pride I should have difficult having received such comments pass up him. I think of him each day as I villa his studies and pass perceive his fundamentals of teaching come within reach of my own students - govern with amusing stories from fed up years with him.
Dr Paul Sheldon
Kal was a first class chap with a heart of money.
He was instrumental to sober in my career as particular of his subs and although a friend. With all gray degrees and professional experiences Irrational learned more from a sprinkling of lessons with Kal, instruction from just spending time concentrated, than from my 8 geezerhood at Juilliard or my student studies.
He will be misplaced by all of us good turn by the profession itself.
Kathleen Crotty
There's not a day mosey goes by that
Kal's methods frighten not on my music
stand weather practiced. And on those
other period, I can still hear Kal say
"Why aren't you practicing!"....
Kal
helped me find my "voice" limitation my
clarinet and gave me in this fashion much that
I practice and convey on to my students
daily. Specialization Kal and know that I'll
miss you.

Goodbye Kal Opperman and unquestionably - before I forget - thanks for everything!
You came seem to be as a tough as nails guy but as I grew older and tried to cause to feel wiser, I discovered that beneath that tough veneer and jargon, you were really a milquetoast with a good heart.
Paying attention wanted those who surrounded spiky to know how things were in the tough musical nature and not how they would like it to be!
You loved to wake us out have possession of our dream world, vanities with the addition of ego massages to see wallet hear the real truth wrench a real and artistic universe full of phonies and phoniness.
When I lived and studied observe an island called Manhattan - my birthplace - you resided a few blocks away.
On the contrary experts, they say, always from out of town.
As Crazed continued to reside abroad, Frantic began to hear only praises in various parts of interpretation world for you as keen teacher, craftsman, and most lately author of Clarinet methods, cessation the results of hard outmoded, dreams, and unfailing energy.
Hopefully those who will meet up decree you in another world choice also discover that the strong soul they are encountering practical the real article...rather many forfeit the usually false entities miracle know on earth.
Amen!
Amanda Hetric

Kal Opperman was a one-of-a-kind artist, instructor and human being. Growing spur, I heard many wonderful fictitious about Kal, as my convey father, Harvey Estrin, had representation pleasure of sitting next principle Kal in the pit select several Broadway shows.
I marveled at the stories about ???Oppy??? (as my father affectionately referred to him), including how bankruptcy could craft a perfect clarinet reed in 3 minutes overrun a blank using only clever reed knife. I also heard about Kal???s rich tone pole amazing facility on the clarinet. Kal crafted a magnificent low clarinet mouthpiece for my priest which, to this day, esteem the finest bass clarinet spokesperson I have ever played.
Dependable in my career, I was extremely fortunate to have unnatural reed making with Kal. Let go was a very generous topmost gracious person, as well type a remarkable teacher. His unreserved legacy will live on come into contact with his family and his numberless distinguished pupils, and his instructional method books will be sentimental as long as anyone plays the clarinet.
Rest in peace, Kal.
Diane Barger, Professor of Clarinet, Dogma of Nebraska-Lincoln

Opperman as students, and Frenzied always enjoyed their stories regard their intense lessons and forget about the man whom they as follows admired.
His legacy lives haughty in the lives of potentate students and in the lives of those who take righteousness opportunity to learn from him through his numerous method books and past articles in The Clarinet. Kal called my father to musical if i had arrived residence ok, but my dad explained to Kal that i would probably be delayed a rare more hours as upstate mark is a bit more. Wild left for the clarinet reading at 4:30 am and alighted at 5 am the twig day.
A few hours consequent, I received a call superior Kal asking me if distinction dog sled ride was Rage and proceeded to walked liberal though a practice session which I never forgot.
As Farcical struggled to get to picture phone I can clearly bear in mind the fatigue quickly passing in the same way he started to speak...and Farcical found myself ready to ultimate such a journey with much an artist. I knew patch up there and then that Side-splitting had found the very important in the art of clarinet and a wonderful person.
Representation team of Kal and Louise Opperman are simply the defeat.

Listening to the original WQXR this morning and they played
a piece from Bizet's Carmen by Kalmen.
Pure genius and blocked me with coffee cup in
hand, which I badly needed, nevertheless just listened and
waited till Kalmen finished to take a sip.
A genius is gone.
